Intelligent Design.

The more and more I study the body the more I feel deep down inside that it is a mathematical improbability that the human body was at one point a single celled organism that eventually crawled from the sludge and started walking on land.  Just look at the complexity of the human heart with all its moving parts, valves, chambers and the precision electical activity surrounding it to make it all work.   The lumbar disc is another.  Of course I had to throw some reference to the back. It’s what I do, I’m a chiropractor.  It’s comprised of two parts.  The inner nucleus pulposus which is a fluid filled area that provide a shock absorbing function for compressive loads. The other part is the annulus fibrosis,  a successive layer of rings that have 60 to 70 degree angles that alternate in directions from layer to layer and provide a strong resistance to rotational forces.   Seriously how would something like this evolve without intent?   If you like this article then follow me here.  Thanks for stopping by.

Arm Problems? May not be related to throwing.

Over the years as a hitting coach I have heard many times of young players hurting their arms and they believe it is from over throwing or with bad mechanics.  What if after a close evaluation of their throwing mechanics I come to the conclusion that they actually have good mechanics?  Is it really mechanics?  What if it is actually their hitting mechanics?  Just break it down logically.  A baseball  a mere 5.25 ounces in weight, while a youth baseball bat weighs 19 to 28 ounces.  When looking at a swing there is the same kind of stretch in the medial side of the top hand on a swing as the overhand throwing motion of a baseball.  The only difference is there is up to 5 times the weight dragging on that elbow.  This is an interesting scenario that people rarely consider.  I started considering it when students with poor hitting mechanics were taught proper ones by me and time after time their elbow problems went away miraculously.  Things started to fall into place in my diagnosis of arm problems.  It really is a combination of the two.  If the player has arm problems and bad swing mechanics then the problem is magnified. The hitter stops throwing and substitutes throwing for extra hitting while their arm is supposed to be healing not recognizing that the hitting may be the contributing factor.  They keep hitting and hitting and the arm problems never go away.  That player eventually quits and we no longer hear from them again.  I on the other hand have had many students with  arm problems come and hit with me and after doing a video analysis I see that they are out of sequence and starting their swing with their arms first and then turning their hips last.  After showing them this and a new sequence their swing becomes more efficient and this takes strain off the arm.  In a short time they are throwing again without pain and have no clue why.  Do  you know who else gets medial epicondylitis?  Golfers do. Hours and hours of downward swinging and then their elbow starts hurting.  So next time your young player develops arm problems look at the whole picture not just a part of it.  Thanks for stopping by

Sometimes you have to scare them.

The other day a new patient calls and canceled all hit future appointments.  It was the day after I did his report of findings and I guess he thought I was Jesus and would lay my hands on him one time and he would get up and walk out two stepping.  I’ve removed the name and cut down the X-Ray’s size to not violate any privacy laws.  When I called him to see how he was doing he told me he didn’t appreciate my scare tactics.  I was a little taken back, but then the thought came to me, “I was trying to scare you!”  Your condition is serious and if you start doing something.  So he quit.

The public and consumer has been brainwashed by the media and medics.  Brainwashed to the point when people that are feeling poorly they go to the doctor or urgent care and get some pills and go home.  If it’s more serious see a back surgeon and have a one time expensive surgery and everything is all better faster.  Right, if it was only the simple.  So when people come walk into the clinic they say, “Just crack me and I’ll be on my way.”   The chiropractic treatment has been cheapened to that of an auto mechanic.  Drive in and I’ll give your front end a reelignment.  When I inform them that it has taken years for their body to get into this degenerative state and its going to take months of treatments to get out of pain and start correcting their structural issue they look a me like I’m crazy.  After a car accident they will go if for physical therapy for weeks and month and not bat an eye. Mainly because insurance will cover up to 90 visits where some insurance doesn’t have a chiropractic benefit and others may allow 12 to 30 visits.   So instead of getting treatments and coming out of pocket they chose the less expensive (at the moment) medical model and just get on the anti-inflammatories and pain killers. Oh by the way this works for a while.  Then the body adjusts to the pain killers and they take more and more and nothing works anymore.  The body from the anti inflams has shut down the natural healing process and their degeneration accelerates.  Finally not being able to stand the pain anymore they come back to me and say, “Help me, you are my last hope.”  To late, most of their structural damage is beyond repair.   They had the option months and even years ago to allow me to put their body back into its natural healing state but chose not to.  I wish I was Jesus but I’m not.  It breaks my heart to see this.  So I guess I must scare you into taking your health as serious as a heart attack.  I wish this was not the case.

Fibromyalgia, Hashimotos, and other auto immune diseases.

Recently I have had the experience of reading over two case studies about Fibromyalgia and Hashimotos disease.  In both case the individuals had never had any health issues in their lives.  One was in an auto accident two years ago and their health slowly began to deteriorate.  The radio graphs missed a fracture of the sternum and showed loss of disc space in the lower cervical spine with a reversed curve.  She did not seek chiropractic care after the accident. So the subluxations of her spine were never addressed.  The second was convinced that the spine was degenerating and that surgery was needed.  Sixteen plus thousand dollars later the symptoms have returned.  This time more painful than before.  diagnosis like Fibromyalgia and Hashimotos disease have been suggested.  My strong belief is that this is really a dysfunctional nervous system related to the trauma to the spine and nerves.  The auto accident has clear trauma that has not been addressed properly.  The patient was even told to avoid chiropractic.  Now both of these athletic healthy people with no real history of disease now just randomly fall apart physically.  Fibromyalgia is sometimes a diagnosis for a person that has fatigue, multiple trigger points with chronic pain.  No abnormal labs or radio graphs and clear blood work leave the medics stumped on a cause so they just label it Fibromyalgia.  The systems of the body are inflammed and inflammation causes pain.  Inflammation may also be caused by the nerves not communicating properly with the brain and the brain to the body.  Untreated subluxations are one of the key causes of degeneration and disease.  That is why regular chiropractic treatments are the key to a successful recover from trauma. Now there is not a lot of hard research evidence published on this because there are so many different styles of chiropractic and controlling a study would be complicated.  On the other hand there are many case studies that document how people that have been treated on a regular basis have improved and the degeneration of the spine has stopped.  Proper nutrition, exercise and lifestyle changes also play a very important roll in the healing process. I can honestly say chiropractic is the way the truth and the light, but it is a major part of the equation.

MOBE Summit

I had great time and learned a ton of new and amazing stuff.  I also had a chance to pay it forward and bring a friend for free.  It wasn’t really free for him.  He bought me lunch two times.  It is often that I meet six figure income earners.  I tend to attract these people into my space. I do love asking questions and watching how they interact with others.  Matt Lloyd is a pretty amazing individual.  He was a very young 21 with little experience in the internet marketing industry.  He made many mistakes, but he did what all people that rise to the top do. He learned from his failures and asked questions.  Eventually because he didn’t quite he finally started to get good at what he was doing and eventually figured out how to make money online.  Then he started teaching others.  Today My Online Business Empire has turned to My Online Business Education to finally My Own Business Education.  Matt Has surrounded himself with the right people too. This is something leaders do so their organizations can grow.  I also met John Chow one of the most popular internet bloggers in the world.  Another rages to riches story.  There were a few at the summit. In the end the high end coaching packages and high end products priced me out of the running.   Would I ever use this type of high end coaching?  You bet your  butt I would.  Timing is also important and right now my priorities are in my practice and myself.  I’ll keep you posted on this.
